Kaylee and I visited "the site" for the first time yesterday. That's how they refer to the Big Top and the rest of the tents that make up the Cirque space. I was overwhelmed with the size and complexity. Actually, my first thought was, "How do you roll up a canvas that big? And how do you fit it in the semi?" I asked Dylan about how many trucks it takes to transport the tent between cities - he estimated it at more than 50. Holy Crap.
And that doesn't include the stuff they rent in each city - mobile office spaces, forklifts, etc. It was intense.
Kaylee and I were only allowed in the kitchen area, though. There's still a few more days of construction before the site is really safe for non-working members of the troupe. They just didn't have a hard hat small enough for Kaylee to wear :) But we had only gone in for the food anyway. It was the first family BBQ for this site, and I got my first taste of the food we'll be enjoying for the next few years. T-bone steak, garlic prawns, delicious BBQ pork ribs, and octopus (which I didn't try, but smelled awesome). And then a brownie-fudge-caramel-pecan thing that was beyond decadent. I think I could get used to this.
Before dinner, we went for a walk on the pier. I love LA, the ocean, everything. I am so glad we get to spend a few months here.
