So, I love Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens. And one of the things I love best about reading it is how the footnotes throughout the book add an entire extra dimension to the book. In some cases, they're just parenthetical notes, sometimes history and geographical background, mostly, they're these crazy descriptions of events or inside jokes or whatever that provide depth to characters and events. They almost always elicit1 laughter.
Some of my blog posts get a bit off track because I start rambling in the parentheses. Or I start an idea, but want to give more background, and end up somewhere I didn't mean to be. Or, I want to write a serious post that dissects my thought process, but I also want to throw in the sarcastic, humorous, or snarky comments that would make the story more amusing, but then then tone of what I'm writing changes and I end up unhappy with the result. So, I'm going to try this footnote idea.2

1 Drat. Just realized I wrote "illicit" in a previous post when what I meant was "elicit" and now I need to go fix it.
2 Which also gives me an excuse to mess around with html, since the blogger editor doesn't offer it in the basic tools.
