The only touristy thing we've done so far in Tokyo is going to the Epson Aqua Stadium, a small aquarium just a ten minute walk away. Even better, since it's right by the main train station, and there's a shuttle that runs from our apartment to the station every 15 minutes in the morning and evening, it's more like a five minute walk, without freezing. We went last week, with Dylan, and Kaylee loved it. So a few days ago, when she asked if we could go see the "fish!" I told her we could. Unfortunately, they don't open until 12, and she asked first thing in the morning. I had to tell her we'd go after nap. She immediately laid down on the couch and tried to fall asleep. At 10am.
She did eventually take her nap (at a more reasonable 13:30), and when she woke up we took the shuttle over to the aquarium.
We went straight to the dolphin stadium, where the show had just ended. But the best part of this aquarium is that they never close the doors to the dolphin or sea lion stadiums. And, with the dolphins, they do their trainings after the show, and you can hang around and watch. Which is awesome.
Then Kaylee wanted to see the fish, so we walked through the aquarium, but as soon as she saw the door to the sea lion stadium, that was all she wanted to do. Their show didn't start for 20 minutes, but Kaylee couldn't be dissuaded. So, we sat and waited for the sea lions to come out and balance things on their noses.
Not a bad way to spend $20 & 2 hours of dark, cold, not-going-to-play-outside time. Kaylee definitely enjoys it.
(note, I admit, some of the photos are from our first trip, and some from our second)
Kathy: Looks like great fun! Loved the bit about Kaylee lay down immediately for her nap so that then she would be "ready and able" to go! What a sweetheart !
