Dear Japan, Let's Talk About Packaging

Hey there, Japan.  How are you today?

I have a little concern I'd like to bring up with you.  See, I have a sweet tooth.  I admit, this is my problem, not yours, but since you do seem to be making attempts at feeding my addiction (such as that Caramel Macchiato loaf at Starbucks), I thought I might provide some suggestions to help you in the future.

I like to have a package (or two) of cookies in the house, for those late night (or mid morning, or early afternoon) cravings.  But, every time I look at a package of cookies in your stores, I immediately feel like buying one would be the ultimate in selfishness and wastefulness.

This is a delicious cookie:

This is the individual wrapper it was in:

This is the box it was in:

In the States, this box would hold at least a dozen cookies.  And that's a low estimate.  Because in the States, no one would buy a box of fewer than a dozen cookies.

This box?  It holds 8 cookies.  Each individually wrapped.

In Australia, the challenge to my sweet tooth was nothing was quite as sweet as I wanted it to be.  I adjusted.  I ate the cookies.

Is this your way of making me cut cookies out of my diet, Japan?  You're going to make me feel so guilty every time I unwrap another cookie that I decide I just can't buy any more?

I guess I'll just have to buy more Krispy Kreme.  A dozen in a box.  No individual wrapping.  Lots of sugar.
