Which reminds me, I'll want to be watching The Muppet Christmas Carol tonight while sitting in front of the fire.
I love being at my parents' for Christmas. Fireplace, Christmas tree, baby grand piano for carols, and food. It's wonderful.
We brought the dogs, and they're getting along with my parents' dogs better than I anticipated. All are currently asleep in their respective beds in the dogs' room here, after wearing themselves out playing in the snow all morning. Well, the husky (theirs) and collie-mutt (ours) played in the snow. The lab (ours) and the other-mutt (theirs) stayed inside where it's warm. The lab lacks the necessary snow proof coat, the other-mutt is old and arthritic and can't keep up.
The drive cross-country was fine. We pushed through, leaving home at about 2pm Friday, and arriving in the driveway here around just before midnight Saturday. It was COLD throughout the Great Plains and Midwest, and only tolerable here because the wind had died down before we arrived. Wind chills below -10F means that the dogs were getting tired of the cold, tired of the car, and ready for something new. They arrived, and played. Jumping through snow drifts, sniffing other dogs' butts, running down icy roads... it's heaven for them.
I didn't get as much knitting done as hoped during the trip. If I wasn't driving, I was sleeping or it was too dark. So Mel's second mitt isn't quite done yet. But it's coming along and should be done well before she arrives on Christmas Eve. After I finish her mitts, I'll do mine, then a scarf. Oh, and I-cord ties to wrap up some of the gifts. Hmm, it might still be a bit ambitious, but considering my goal was just the shawl (finished two weeks ago, and still not blocked - oops) I feel like I'm doing well. I'll have to wash and block the shawl when I get back home. It means that my mother-in-law will be receiving her gift late this year, but she will get it! (And I can post that safely because I know no one reads this yet)
