Last week, it was vacuuming. Every day. Incessantly. Today, I look at the rug, and I say, Yeah, that needs to be vacuumed. But not right now.
The dog has been brushed more times in the last week than in the last year.
The husband's habit of putting mail on the cupboard to throw away later? Not tolerated. My new mantra: "A pile is not an organizational strategy."
But today, my obsession started with needing to get more done in the nursery. I went in to see what I could help with to make it more likely the painting will get finished soon. And found my bookshelves, full of binders and papers accumulated from years of teaching, especially the massive piles from last year's Masters program. All put on the shelf with the intent to "file these eventually." All considered too important to throw away at the time. All put on the shelf until there was more time to deal with it.
Now, we can't finish painting until the bookshelves (a stack of cubes) are emptied and moved away from the wall. If I leave it to the husband, the mess will get worse. So, where am I today? Sorting through massive piles of worksheets and notes and lesson plans and binders... trying to consolidate, if nothing else. Get things into binders. No loose papers! No piles!
Come on, nesting instinct! Help me finish this job I've been putting off for so long!
