Three Months

You've had a busy month, kid.

Nov 2,  2011

The first few days of this third month of your life were "normal."  We were settling into our routines: bath time every night, nap times snuggling with me in our big comfy glider, having your father or Ali babysit you while I spent afternoons at work.  But, going on in the background, unbeknownst to you... we were debating the pros and cons of joining the circus.

And, when you were just 9 weeks old, we decided the pros definitely outweighed the cons.  Suddenly, we had three weeks to get our little family ready to join a traveling Cirque show.  Oh, and plan your first holiday with family - Thanksgiving in Oregon.

Thanksgiving was fun.

Amazing how Busia can multitask - talking with her sister, playing cards, and feeding the baby

We teach 'em young.

Worn out.  Naptime.

My parents and brother and sister joined us in Oregon, and spent three days fighting over who got to hold you.  Except when someone needed to change your diaper.  Then they gave you back to me.  But that's okay, because I love holding you, especially when I'm starting to feel stressed - it calms me down, and gives me something beautiful and wonderful to focus on.

You cried all through your Baptism the day after Thanksgiving, except when the water was being poured over your head.  Your godfather, Jon, couldn't make it, but the Olson's watched with love as you were welcomed into the Church.  Afterwards, you smiled all through a Breadboard brunch.
You wore the same Baptism dress that your Aunt Mel and I wore for ours, thanks to Busia.
Breadboard!  We'll be back when we visit/move back to Ashland.

You really are beautiful.  I love taking pictures of you.  You smile, laugh, and coo to charm everyone around you.  You stretch and wiggle and giggle.  You chat, talk to yourself, talk to the TV, and tell your toys who's in charge.  Your little fingers explore the world around you, you clasp your hands together and suck on your knuckles when you're happy.  You watch a little more TV then I might like, but it entertains you, and as long as we don't let Grandpa plop you down in front of too much Comedy Central or Sopranos, I let it slide.
playing with your toys, especially Seven the Octopus (your father named most of your toys)

Speaking of Grandpa...

Your father has taken off for Mexico, to learn his new job with Cirque.  But since you don't have all your immunizations yet, and I wasn't thrilled with the idea of trying to keep you safe and healthy in Mexico, a week after Thanksgiving we left for Michigan and a month with the grandparents.

December 1st marked your first plane rides, and you were awesome!!  Slept through most of it, complained only when you needed a clean diaper, and got over it as soon as we changed you.  Getting off the SFO - O'Hare plane, several people thanked you for being a quiet companion on their flight (I could see the fear in their eyes when we got on the plane).  I'm worried about traveling alone with you to LA in January, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Your first week here in Michigan has been interesting.  It's taken you a few days to adjust.  You didn't like waking up in a strange bedroom, so trying to put you down to bed the first night took a couple hours.  And bath time was an adventure.  Turns out you're too big and wiggly for kitchen sink baths, so after trying a few nights, I gave in and bought you a new bathtub so bath time could be more like at home.  You appreciated that.

We also leave the house more here then we did at home.  There are always errands to run or places and people to visit.  You've been shopping downtown, gone to Babies R Us and Target to get a new warm snowsuit-type outfit for going out in this cold Michigan weather, you even took a trip to Bronners to pick up Christmas ornaments and gifts.  We went to church with Grandpa, and were passed around and snuggled with, and introduced with pride as "Marjorie's great-granddaughter."

You're growing so much.  You sit up, hold your head up, and seems very aware of everything going on around you.  You're super strong, and catch me by surprise more then I'd like - I have to be a lot more aware of how I'm holding you or where I put you down because you can really throw yourself around.  It won't be long before you're rolling over.

I love you lots, and look forward to what this next month will bring.
