Dylan had already been here a few days, so there was coffee, milk, cereal... the bare essentials that he could carry from the grocery store down the street. But picking me up at the airport meant renting a car; renting a car meant we could take a trip to Target, which we needed.
Hard to imagine that there'd be anything left that I'd still need after three checked bags, two carry-ons, stroller and car seat, two boxes being mailed to me from MI of things I couldn't fit into the (free) checked bags), and the three (?) boxes mailed to LA from Oregon. But, of course, we did. I had only vaguely considered the realities of living in a furnished apartment for 10-ish weeks. They leave some helpful things for us (like a vacuum and laundry basket), but since housekeeping only comes every other week, there are some things that we still need. I'm glad that disposable cleaning things (like single use Pledge dust sheets) have been invented. Plus, we needed laundry stuff, baby stuff, and random other things we thought of that we know will be used (like another baby bath tub, since the last two were both too big to pack, but the baby is still too small to not use one). Something tells me our first day in every new city will involve shopping.
But, I think we're mostly settled in now. Most of the unpacking is done, we have more than everything we need, and I'm ready to get accustomed to this new living situation. I had a few moments of, "wait, this isn't my house... I miss MY house," and, "I'm a 'stay-at-home, live-in-my-little-bubble' girl, WHAT am I doing in a lifestyle where I'll need to move into a new apartment and meet new people and learn a new neighborhood every three months????" I have my kid, though, and my wonderful husband, and my essential things (iPad, tv). It should be okay.
Here's a pic from a few weeks ago in Michigan, to appease the Kaylee fans until I get a chance to upload some more recent ones..
