Feeling Like Home

Welcome to a new city!  The luggage is being unpacked1 and new toys for baby have been purchased2.  Her new toy for this city is a set of foam floor tiles for playing with and on.  The first time we set her on the floor in the hotel room and she tipped over and her head went THUNK, I decided she might need a softer surface to play on3.

"Home" is smaller than in LA.  Here, we have just a studio suite at a Residence Inn4 instead of a one-bedroom apartment.  But we're making it work much better than I feared.  A little creative rearranging of the furniture5 and we were able to find a corner of the room to call Kaylee's.  And it's set apart and blocked off enough to help make it quieter for her at bedtime.  So, most nights she's slept just fine.  Thank goodness.

And it's amazing how valuable the space under the bed is for storing luggage.  Note to those considering a similar lifestyle - you'll want the big, super durable packing containers, but duffles have their value too - they squish down and fit in that little space under the bed a lot better than solid containers!  Though, we too are investing in a few of those containers (pictures and links to follow, when I actually see what Dylan's bought!) too.

There's going to be a lot to keep us busy here in Portland.  Cousins to visit, museums to play in, hopefully friends visiting from Southern Oregon.  And we're just a 5 minute walk from the tent this time, which has great advantages: (1) Dylan doesn't have to leave for work an hour before he has to be there, or spend an hour after the show getting home so more time with us! (2) we'll definitely be taking advantage of the Kitchen Tent more often here.

For those of you concerned I wasn't making enough friends fast enough in our little troupe of crazy circus people:  I've found a student to tutor!  One of the technicians has a 16 year old daughter who needs some help with science.... and will trade services for babysitting!  Plus, living in the Residence Inn, with their free continental breakfast every morning, means I'm seeing more of the families every day.  And Kaylee's charming little smile and goofy grins are helping us make friends.

Gotta go, kid got cranky.

___________
1 Way too slowly; it'll be time to start packing before it's all unpacked at this rate.
2 Hope this doesn't become a trend.  It'll have a seriously negative effect on future packing/unpacking rates.
3 I'm not a bad mommy.  I swear.
4 A very nice, relatively new Residence Inn.
5 Read: "Glad I took pictures when we got here, because we'll need them for reference to figure out where things go before we leave."
