Occasionally, I'm reminded we're not just in some big city somewhere in the States. Sometimes it's the practical things (I really miss big Targets and one stop shopping!). Sometimes, it's obvious cultural things (no tipping, "capsicum" not "bell peppers").
But the things that are hardest to overlook are environmental. The sun is crazy strong. Huge ibises wander through parks like pigeons or seagulls. And there are parrots and lurakeets and cockatoos in the trees. Not escaped pets. Wild ones. Flocks of them. That's not something you get used to.
