It started with the alphabet tiles we bought back in Melbourne. First, she learned all the animals on them, though some of the crazier Australian animals don't have a sign and have been harder to learn, such as the numbat. And she loved the shapes of the letters. I'd trace them on paper and she'd match them up.
Then, she became fascinated with the letters on the structure at the play ground. One of the boards has A-F and pictures to match (A = Apple, B = Bee, etc) and we started with having her find the picture then she wanted to know what the letters were, so I'd teach her the names for the letters, too. From there, she started exploring all the letters in the park.
"A"
So, I took an idea for tangram squares I wanted to make for a busy bag activity (quiet book, without the "book").
And letters for the other side.
To make an adorable set of ~2"x2" letters we can play with! Very tactile, fun to play with as a puzzle on one side and as letters on the other. I decided to make all the vowels green on yellow background, and none of the color pairs for the consonants match, so the vowels stand out as a special group.
Loved this project! Kaylee's still not sure about it, but the upcoming flight should give us lots of time to try it out.
