Counting to 5

"Buh-buh-bys!"  Aka, Butterflies.

I started this page for the quiet book before we even left Perth, nearly 4 months ago.  And finished it just 10 days ago.  It isn't a complicated page, but I didn't have much time to work on it this summer, as my usual sewing time - after putting Kaylee down for bed - wasn't as available here as it is when we're living alone somewhere.  I usually went to bed about two minutes after she did, unless my parents talked me into a game of euchre.  So, it took a while for this simple (but adorable!) page to be fully assembled.

There wasn't a specific inspiration page for this.  It came from a variety of ideas - counting pages, butterfly pattern pages, etc.  Just something for my sweet kiddo who has started to enjoy counting things, and proudly holds up two fingers when you ask how old she is.

The left wing of each butter fly is sewn down onto the page, and an embroidered butterfly body awaits the second wing.

An embroidered number is hiding under the matching wing, which attaches with a snap.

Each number was embroidered with a different technique, as I continue to work on my needlework skills.  Some turned out better than others.

Finally, 1 - 9 to fill in the blank space.

Sketches and material purchases for the next page are already in the works!  We leave for Taipei in 6 days, and construction should be quicker :)
