Last year, we were on an Australian beach somewhere along the southern Pacific Ocean, during our Sydney to Adelaide drive. With her daddy back in Sydney, working tear down, and our friend Heather with us.
This year, she's at school. In Taiwan.
Life is weird. And unpredictable.
Someday, we might have real family holidays again. As usual, I'm not sure where I stand on the spectrum between being glad for what I have and wishing for what I can't have.
Today, I am grateful for:
My family. Dylan, Kaylee, grandmas, grandpas, Busias, Dziadzias, Aunts Uncles, mommies, daddies, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all the crazy extended family, too.
My beautiful, adorable, brilliant daughter.
Dylan's job, and everything about Cirque that gives us these incredible opportunities while making it possible for me to spend time with Kaylee and afford time to myself, too.
A big, crazy world to explore. People, cultures, ecosystems, and everything else that I get to be part of, learn about, and expose my daughter to. And awesome parents who did their best to be sure I was exposed to it when I was young, so I'd be brave enough and prepared for this adventure.
Friends. Those far away and those nearby. The people who will try to make today feel at least a little bit like a holiday here. The people back home who don't forget about me.
Facebook, Skype, and unlimited internet.
Good books, good coffee, and a good hotel lounge to sit in and enjoy this beautiful rainy day.
Happy Thanksgiving!
