Okay, got that out of the way. Here's the short story: when we left the States in October, I looked at my lovely MacBook and said, sorry computer, but I don't need you. Dylan had built himself a desktop for all our hard drives, he has his laptop, we EACH have an iPad AND an iPhone. I didn't need that extra laptop. Oh, but wait.... the desk top is connected to the tv, and not exactly comfortable to work on, especially since the best time for blogging is naptime, when it isn't really helpful to have the giant tv on. Dylan's laptop goes to work with him every day. My iPad is first generation and not reliable for anything except watching movies, and my iPhone isn't exactly the best for posting with pictures, hyperlinks, etc. So... limited posting.
We're currently in the middle of the transfer from Taipei to Tokyo, having just moved into our Tokyo apartment, but Dylan's not back to work yet until tomorrow, so his laptop is home and I've confiscated it for the day. Yay! And, on Saturday, my new laptop will be here! I'm super excited. I know, I know. Why not just have my old laptop shipped over? Well, because I still don't want to deal with it. My new one is just a Chromebook. Lightweight, fast, built for just emailing, web browsing, blogging. Not weighed down, literally and figuratively, by the hardware and software for all that other stuff that I can use on the desktop. My pretty little Chromebook, with some help from my IT husband, will be able to be used as terminal for the desk top - giving me all of it's power, too. Or so he tells me.
Let's focus on that transfer thing for a minute. Hey! We're in Tokyo now! Initial responses:
- Wow.... the buildings are tall and shiny again!
- IT'S FREAKING COLD HERE!
- So, this is what it would be like to be illiterate. I'm going to need to learn to read Japanese....
- IT'S FREAKING COLD OUTSIDE! AND THE WIND! IT'S COLD!!!
- Our apartment is on an island in the middle of Tokyo Bay. That's cool. There's water every where!
- The wind off the water is COLD!
- Our apartment is very, very tiny. There is not a lot of storage space. Or playing space. It'll be interesting when the rest of the luggage gets here...
We'll be here six months. There will be more blogging.
